As Colorado commemorates its sesquicentennial, a new fiber art exhibition honoring the service of Buffalo Soldiers and Colorado statehood will open on August 1st, 2026 at the Fort Garland Museum and Cultural Center. This exhibition will be in place until Veteran's Day, November 11, 2026.

O’ Say Can You See will offer a thoughtful reimagining of the Colorado state flag through the creation of a large-scale fiber collage hand-crafted from reclaimed textiles.

When the exhibition   opens, Colorodans will be able to view the original work of fiber art alongside the 37 star flag - the very flag that was raised to declare statehood 150 years ago.

By centering the importance of  public memory, identity and civic belonging,  - the exhibition will create the space for audiences to reflect on the rooted significance of Black military service and the contributions of service members to the American West and our country's shared history.
